Socialization is one of the most important parts of training. It is a process in which a dog, particularly a new or a problematic one, is exposed to various sights, sounds and scenarios he will encounter in his life. These include but not limited to firecrackers, thunder and other appliances that create frightening sounds, speeding vehicles, bicycles and other moving objects, people of all ages, skin color and physical build, car rides, vet check ups as well as being handled, groomed, examined and many other things you can think of.
The very essence of socialization is to make the encounter pleasant in order to help your dog create positive association to such things, events or people. With this, undesirable behaviors such as excessive barking, biting, chasing, chewing as well as aggression and fear can be prevented.
